Depression and Thoughts Connected

Out of everything that we talked about, something small stood out to me, so Ill share it with you and hope that it makes you think a little like it did me.

Ill start off with a study that was done (I’m sorry, I cant sight the study, but I have heard it referred to by reliable sources) and they had two groups of people. The first group was in a room, and given to them was a peace of paper with words on it that implied an elderly person. For example, “slow, wrinkle, walker, wheelchair, forgetfulness, nursing home”; but they never said “elderly”. After the group read the words, they were told to move to a room down the hall a ways.

The next group started in the same room and was given a similar list, only this time is was words that implied a young person. “Upbeat, happy, fast, able, strong, bright”, ect. Then, had them go to the same room down the hall.

The researchers timed each group to see the speed that they traveled to the next room (the participants did not know that was part of the study). The first group, who had the older set of words traveled at a significantly slower pace than did the others group who read much happier/younger words.

If something as small as the words we read have such an effect on our bodies, then how much more of an effect will images, or more importantly, our constant thoughts effect us? I hypothesize that if we were more cautious about what we put into our minds then we would be healthier physically, emotionally and spiritually.

There is a strong connection between depression and lies. Lies, being any thought that is not truth. When we think something that is negative, it effects us. Take this to another level- what about pornography? Spiritually harmful music, weather its the beat or lyrics? what about the thoughts we have about others? And more important, the thoughts about ourselves?

Satan does not look at each of us and say, “I want you to be this bad, and fall into just this trap and then Ill leave you alone because you will be bad enough or depressed enough, or lost enough”. He will never leave you alone, but you can control the effect he has on you. With him being at a disadvantage of not having a body, he does not have all the tools to catch us as we have to evade him… but we all have a mind- mutual tool that we must, at all cost, protect. Because that is the key to the rest of us- our spirits, our body, our feelings. What we take in with our senses and how our mind processes it, effect our thinking, witch effects our feelings and then our actions.

When times get hard, think good thoughts, don’t entertain lies or half truths. If it is downgrading to you or another, think about it honestly and figure out if it is a truth, or if it is rather, just a ½ truth that Satan is trying to catch you with. He wants us to think ½ truths that you know are wrong, and then full out lies, and then in time we start to believe it and by our own thoughts and the entertaining of lies, we make that lie a reality to ourselves. A lie will never be a truth, but it can be a perceived reality. Be aware of this and don’t fall into a 1/2 truth that does not lift you up.

As we try to only bring positive and uplifting things into our mind and then only entertain that witch lifts us up, we are better able and more prepared to have uplifting feelings and righteous actions. Think positively and don’t let the world get you down, the Lord and promised, “I will never leave you comfortless”. Don’t let him in…Christ is knocking as well, its up to you who comes in.
